March

March is a young municipality with an old tradition. On 1st December 1973 the municipalities of Buchheim, Holzhausen, Hugstetten and Neuershausen which had been independent up to then, merged to form the unique municipality of March.
It was not difficult to find the name for this new municipality since the „March“ (a limited area) and its villages have already existed in the Middle Age. In the 18th century plans of the districts had been established for the first time.
March and its districts have important sites everywhere. Particularly striking are the churches, castles and further monuments which influence the character of the districts.

Cycling paths and local recreation areas

Cycling paths and local recreation areas
March has plenty of local recreation areas.
The landscape in which March is situated is a highlight. It is diversified with the lowlands of the Dreisam River and the hill of March (Marchhügel). The different areas are connected by trekking and cycling tracks.
In the lowlands of the Dreisam river waters, woods and agricultural areas form the scenery: an ideal area for bicycle tourists. Our famous forest playgrounds with barbecue areas are also there.
The Marchhügel or Nimberg reaches from Hugstetten to Nimburg. In this area the landscape is formed by the agriculture.
Due to the vineyards called "Rebstuhl" and "Steingrube" March belongs to the winegrowing area of the Kaiserstuhl.
