Ihringen – winegrowing village with a homelike atmosphere and a city flair at the same time

It was already in 962 that Ihringen had a magnificent size for a winegrowing municipality. Really everything does revolve around wine. Thanks to the good accessibility of the local train (Breisgau S-Bahn) and thanks to the numerous tourists who come to the municipality every year, Ihringen is a winegrowing village communicating city flair and homelike atmosphere at the same time. By the way, guests get the guest-card KONUS allowing them to go by the local public transports free of cost. Many shops and different kinds of restaurants and coffee-shops promise that you will enjoy your stay in Ihringen. Finally, Ihringen is point of departure and destination of numerous beautiful trekking tours such as the premium trekking trail „Kaiserstuhlpfad“.

Liliental - Arboretum

It is hard to believe, but here you will find an exotic forest paradise in the middle of a winegrowing area! Thanks to this you have plenty of possibilities for trekking and adventure tours. In the arboretum of Liliental you can not only see local plants, but internationally known trees and plants, too. Sequoias and many other exotic plants as well as more than 30 different kinds of rare orchids will set your heart racing. Following the themed educational trails you will become a botanical expert. This parc is accessible at any time.

Vulkanfelsgarten Winklerberg (volcanic rock)

At the south-western edge of the Kaiserstuhl the Winklerberg can be seen from far away because it rises over the neighbouring Rhine valley. This mountain is known as the highlight of the German viticulture and is one of the best German winegrowing areas. Set off on a tour of discovery and get to know different types of wine being of the highest quality and coming from the oldest growing area of noble wines in the Kaiserstuhl. During a walk on the educational circular trail you will learn exciting things and histories about nature, geology and viticulture on themed notice-boards.

St. Vitus Kapelle (Chapel of Saint Vitus)

The outside surface of this chapel which was built in the 14th century is rather simple and insignificant. However, if you visit the chapel and take a look inside, you will see frescos of the 15th century. Apart from the life-size apostles, the life of Saint Vitus who is the church patron is shown in the chapel. In the choir of the chapel a tabernacle dated from 1507 A.C. can be seen after prior arrangement by phone (phone: +49/7668 5058).

Protestant Church of Ihringen

Probably, the protestant church had been built before the town of Ihringen was established. The present church was inaugurated in 1877. The colourful and artistically sophisticated church windows made by Valentin Feuerstein are very particular. On these windows motives from the Old and New Testament are presented (e. g. parable of the workers in the vineyard).
During the day the church is open and can be visited. For guided tours, kindly get in contact with the tourist information office in Ihringen (Kaiserstuhl Touristik Ihringen +49/7668-9343).

Naturzentrum Kaiserstuhl (nature centre)

In every season of the year the Kaiserstuhl region represents a worthwhile destination for nature lovers. The Naturzentrum Kaiserstuhl (nature centre) is a central office to get much information about the sites of natural beauty. Wirth regard to the nature and geology of the Kaiserstuhl concrete exhibitions are waiting for you; for example an interactive model of the region, a multimedia station for children as well as a reading section.
